Information science and technology's deep integration into societal facets significantly alters our lifestyle, inundating us daily with vast information volumes. This era of pervasive social networks results in passive absorption of complex data. "The Disappearance of the Other" critiques this uniformity, noting its adverse societal impacts. While information is easily accessed, acquiring deep knowledge remains a slow endeavor, a process we're losing to the pursuit of efficiency, fragmenting time and disrupting stability. In response, I've authored a book to enrich discussions on navigating the information age.

Inspiration

When I was deeply affected by information interference and unconscious mobile phone use time, I began to wonder if my family and friends around me also had this trouble and question, so I began to collect information.

Investigation

Most frequent used applications:

How many hours you spent on the phone?

How many times you pick up your phone in a day?

How many notifications received a day?

Chapter 1

We are living in an information age today, and science and technology has penetrated into all fields of life, profoundly affecting and changing people's way of life. Our lives are often accompanied by information. For example, we have obtained various information through media, such as newspapers and magazines, radio and television, mobile phones, and computers.

Most of us seem to suffer from some form of information addiction these days. Picking up the phone or opening a window dozens, hundreds of times a day. We receive a lot of information every day. The moment we turn on the mobile phone, the social communication software seems to be opened unconsciously.

Chapter 3

However, the impact that comes with a large amount of information cannot be ignored. For example, the short videos we watch seem to be manipulated by something, and it has become an unconscious behavior. We look forward to the various short videos provided by the software to secrete dopamine. As soon as we stop, we experience a sense of emptiness, restlessness, and urgency.

Binding design

When considering about the way of binding, I want to combine the design background "We are overwhelmed by massive amounts of information every day, like a circle, trapped in the electronic virtual world circle by circle. Therefore, I chose the accordion binding. A binding method, from all angles, looks like layers of circles to echo the theme.
